MMA is back and competing in StarCraft II again with us here at Team expert.
Almost two years ago, MMA announced his retirement shortly before rolling over the competition and taking home the gold at HomeStory Cup XII. It was a bittersweet victory, since we all knew it would be his last, as the Terran legend had mandatory military service to carry out soon afterwards. Now, almost two years later, he’s finished his service and wants a piece of the competitive StarCraft II scene again. We couldn’t be happier to welcome this legend back with open arms.
Mun "MMA" Seong Won has been involved in the Starcraft competitive scene for a very long time. He started out playing for one of South Korea's most well known teams in the eSports scene, SK Telecom 1, but it wasn't until a couple years later when he joined SlayerS that he started to make it big. It was there that he kick started his eSports career with a bang, consistently placing in the top 4 of various GSL, IGN and ESL tournaments. While there, he took home 6 first place prizes, along with well over $100,000 in winnings over the course of about five years. A few months went by with nothing big, and many people speculated that the competitive scene had burned out this young star. Quite the contrary, he resurfaced about 6 months later holding a contract with Team Acer, and his dominance in the pro scene only continued to flourish. He about doubled his earnings in just one year this time, before announcing his retirement in late 2015 to fulfil his mandatory military service. He left a footprint on the Starcraft II eSports scene as a Terran player that nobody would forget. Now that he's back and playing with us again, we can only sit and watch in anticipation to see if this star is able to surprise us yet again.
MMA is currently at our boot camp in Germany, Bude von Tölz, and will be joined by Scarlett and Bly there soon. The three will be training together for the next couple weeks, and in that time, will be taking a short break to take on the HomeStory Cup XVI nearby in Krefeld. It’s a surprisingly good fit, that MMA should end his career with a victory at HomeStory Cup – perhaps he can start it up again with another? He will be up against may of the same opponents, including HeRoMaRinE, Elazer, ShoWTimE and more. The tournament will take place over 4 days, from November 9th – 12th, and will be broadcast live on TaKe’s twitch channel, as always. Tune in for great matches and fun activities!
We’re so excited to have the Terran master returning to the stage under the flag of Team expert. Let’s be sure to give him a warm welcome back to eSports!
